Highlighting Her

Today we’re highlighting the career of Jenny Lam – Senior Broker at Stoneturn in Sydney.

This year Jenny won ‘The Advisor, Better Business Awards 2020 Best Loan Administrator for NSW & ACT,’ and she puts the win down to her ability to remove the complications of loan processing and deliver solutions to her clients in an effortless experience. Jenny’s motto? ‘When clients succeed, we succeed.’

A successful broker is more than just numbers-oriented; they have heart, compassion, and empathy skills aplenty. It’s not all about money in finance; it’s about people too.

In 2010, when Jenny Lam started her finance career, she was surprised to find herself the only female broker in her organisation. She says, ‘I didn’t understand why there weren’t more women in the role, I had the understanding that females have a competitive advantage in mortgage broking in that we pay exceptional attention to detail and we care deeply about our clients. When we care, it breathes through our work.’

Early in her career, Jenny was fortunate enough to land a role at an organisation that took her seriously – ‘they believed in me and trained me from the bottom up to become a top financial advisor.’

After a few years there, Jenny moved onto another organisation where she managed the entire Sydney region and became the top female broker in the company.

A secret to Jenny’s success is her ability to empathise with her clients. She wholeheartedly believes that ‘clients don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care,’ and she ensures she puts them first.

The joy she gets from her work is evident, Jenny has gone above and beyond her role requirements countless times to ensure her clients are happy. She is process-driven, but her heart beats wildly for her work.

‘The biggest achievement for me is to create and build a process where every facet of the financial journey for our clients is a consistent and easy journey with us.’

Mortgage Broking is a fulfilling career choice for female finance professionals. The gender pay gap is less than other sectors, and a career in mortgage broking gives you autonomy and independence as a business owner, with flexible hours and work from home options a primary goal of many working women.

As a broker, you’re able to define your version of success and gain recognition for your work while helping your client’s dreams come true.

As Jenny says, ‘we are here to walk our clients through their wealth creation journey. From their very first property to an accumulated property portfolio. Knowing that you played a pivotal role in making your client’s financial dreams, the reality is a huge satisfaction.’
